BUCSS was first setup in 2016 as two different socities, The Bournemouth Security Society and The Bournemouth Computing Society. In 2020, these merged to form the Bourmneouth Computing & Security Society, or BUCSS. Then again in 2023, the Mathematics and Programming society also merged with BUCSS.

On of the former committe Bushido Token, went on to setup Bournemouth 2600
